Teucrium Cat Thyme
A sun loving, easy care, dry tolerant, evergreen with style and grace. This is one of those cast iron plants that prospers in trying conditions. The silver foliage creates a nice point of difference and acts as the perfect partner for the abundant, violet pink flowers. The blooms open through summer and autumn and last well, they are a great attraction for beneficial pollinators too.
Teucrium marum is lovely and compact, growing around 30cm high and wide, even without pruning it has a handsome, mounding form. It can be used as a low growing hedge, garden plant, in rockeries, along edging or even in a pot. It responds well to pruning and can be shaped into balls for a more formal edge.
Moderately fertile, well drained soils are ideal, if the soil it too rich it may stretch so require more work. Water to establish, this takes 4-6 weeks of regular watering, then it is impressively dry tolerant. A moderate prune after flowering will keep them compact and vital.
Teucrium marum is commonly known as Cat Thyme, Marum and Germander or Mediterranean Germander.
