Winter Rose HGC Ice N' Roses 'Dark Picotee'
Outward facing blooms on strong stems above the foliage. Creamy white petals with a hint of green and wine red, picotee edge. Free flowering for a long period.
Advances in breeding have led to some exciting changes in these much loved winter bloomers. The ‘Ice N’ Roses’ range utilises the genetics of traditional H. hybridus (Winter Roses) with H. ericsmithii (Snow Roses). The result is even more robust, long-lived, disease resistant plants with more sun tolerance. The XL flowers open in succession from as early as May, lasting into spring. The reds are more colourfast. The flowers open above the leaves and are outward facing.
Simple to plant, hardy and easy grow, Winter Roses will flower for decades without fuss. A lovely choice for gardens or pots.
Almost indestructible and certainly indispensible, Winter Roses are ideal for dressing up the shady spots in your garden. They provide a long lasting floral display, from winter to spring and their handsome, evergreen foliage remains a year round feature.
Winter Roses, or Hellebores are durable and versatile in the garden. They thrive beneath deciduous trees, in filtered light or part shade (they don't tend to flower as well in really heavy shade). They will even grow in containers. The plentiful, enduring flowers measure around 5-8cm across.
The blooms open so freely there is plenty for picking - a real boon for winter. A nice way to display them is floating in a bowl as a table centrepiece.
The Ice N' Roses® breeder named the new species Helleborus x glandorfensis after his home town of Glandorf, Lower Saxony. HGC stands for Helleborus Gold Collection.
