Scabiosa 'Paradise Blue'
The pretty, lilac blue pincushion flowers grow to around 3cm across and last an age. The double blooms open on tall (40cm), airy stems from spring and last right into autumn. There will be plenty for the garden as well as for picking.
Scabiosa ‘Paradise Blue’ will grow to form a nice, compact, low growing mound of soft, lacy, mid green leaves. They look great planted at the front of a garden bed, along a pathway, in a rock garden or a pot. As well as to gardeners, they are very attractive to beneficial insects such as butterflies and bees.
Plant in a sunny garden spot with moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. Water to establish, then you only need worry if rainfall is low as they are impressively dry tolerant. Remove spent flowers regularly during growth to keep the plants tidy and prolong the flowering season. They don’t like winter wet, so good drainage is important. They are evergreen in all but the coldest climates.
Scabiosa are commonly known as Pincushion Flowers.
