Philadelphus 'Mock Orange'
A wonderful little shrub for borders or hedging. In summer, the evergreen foliage is covered with white, fragrant blooms. The simple and sweet flowers have a decorative group of golden stamens at their heart and smell sweetly of citrus and roses. Tough as they come, easy care and highly ornamental.
Mock Orange shrubs are quick to establish and rewarding to grow. The mid to bright green, serrated leaves grow to around 11cm along the elegant, bowing branches.
Plant Mock Orange in full sun to semi shade in moderately fertile, to humus rich, well drained soil. Water to establish, it takes 4-6 weeks of regular watering for the roots to penetrate the surrounding soil and gain access to its moisture and nutrients. They become dry tolerant as they establish. You can enjoy its natural habit or prune into a shrub, espalier or train to your whims. Philadelphus perfume is generally at its best in the evening.
Known botanically as Philadelphus mexicanus. Philadelphus is from the Greek for brotherly love. Mexicanus is used as the plant originates in Mexico and Guatemala. Commonly known as Mock Orange because their scent resembles that of orange blossoms.
