Catmint Silver Catmint
More upright than most, this long blooming Catmint is a pleasure to grow. The flower stems open in abundance with pink bracts of lilac petals for around four months, with beneficial birds and insects adoring them.
The mounds of grey-green leaves will gradually spread and fill out. The leaves velvety to the touch and are aromatic, with a lemon like smell when brushed against or crushed. Suitable for gardens, under roses, as edging or in containers. Flowers have a pretty good vase life.
Nepeta longipes is not as attractive to cats, so it is less likely to be accosted.
Nepeta is also known as Catmint. It is an easy care plant with few insect or disease problems. Dead head them regularly for constant flowers, OR cut back hard after the first flush of flowers, (around mid to late December) then fertilise for a repeat bloom into autumn.
Nepeta grows best in full sun to part shade. In warmer climates it will fair better with some protection from the hot afternoon sun. Plant in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. Water to establish then only if rainfall is low.
