Lilium 'Scheherazade'
Deep red centres with golden yellow borders, fading to white. Lily 'Scheherazade' is a robust Lilium with recurved petals that stretch up to 25cm across. Their soft, sweet fragrance is best appreciated on a warm summer’s night.
It is a cross of Turks Cap Lilium 'Black Beauty' trumpet Lily 'Thunderbolt'. The flowers open from midsummer on tall, strong stems.
The blooms of Lily 'Scheherazade' make for good cut flowers with up to 40 flowers opening on a single stem from established bulbs.
It is easy to create an indulgent display of colour with Lilies. They are gorgeous in the garden, useful in pots and perfect for cut flowers too.
As well as adding glamour and fragrance to the garden, these Lilies are also tough, and able to withstand our hot summers. They are best planted in a permanent position where, as they establish will become more and more floriferous.
It is a good idea to fertilise your Lilies, they are hungry bulbs and this will help to give you the best blooms. Adding an organic fertiliser when you first see growth, then again as they are fading is ideal.
If you are growing your Lilies in pots, fertiliser is even more important and in this case a slow release pellet such as Thrive or a regular application of liquid fertiliser is best. Water to establish, and keep moist in active growth for best results.
