Crown of Thorns 'Tabtim Siam'
Euphorbia ‘Tabtim Siam’ will flower nearly all year, with the main show in winter. The flowers are small and inconspicuous, but the brightly coloured modified leaves, or bracts, that surround them are colourful and last for an age. This new selection from Thailand has good sized bracts that can grow up to 7cm. The bracts are a rosy pink with flashes of green, 8-15 will form in a cluster.
Euphorbia milii hybrids are considered to be among the fabled “Luck Plants” of China and S.E. Asia. Commonly know as ‘crown of thorns’, these new hybrids are admired for their large, showy blooms as well as their ability to bring prosperity and fortune to the grower.
The leaves form on the new growth and older stems may defoliate, exposing the handsome spines. Euphorbia milii is easy to care for and grow best in a sunny to bright light position. It is resistant to most pests and diseases and very dry tolerant.
SIZE (HxW): 10-40cm x 10-30cm
I SEE THE LIGHT: Bright, indirect light is ideal. In high light the foliage will change. Keep out of the hot afternoon sun lest their leaves be sunburned or roots damaged.
I NEED A DRINK: Low, water well, then allow the soil to almost dry out before watering again. Keeping them on the drier side will result in better colour.
I WILL SURVIVE: These plants are so easy, they pretty much look after themselves. In pots ensure you choose a cactus/succulent potting mix for best results as it offers the sharp drainage they need. Choose a pot with drainage holes to ensure they don’t end up sitting in water.
Use a diluted, liquid fertiliser in spring to keep them happy and healthy. They aren’t heavy feeders so will forgive you if you forget.
