Crassula Silver Spoons
Unusual, plump foliage that layers atop and beside each other growing into ever more unusual forms. The olive green leaves have a covering of fine, silver hairs. In summer tall stems of pink flowers open.
Crassula are commonly known as Jade plants and are one of the worlds most popular succulents. They come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes and are super easy to grow and care for.
SIZE (HxW): 10-40cm x 10-30cm
I SEE THE LIGHT: They grow best in a bright, indirect light – if you need a light to read by during the day in their position, it is too dark. They will grow happily in artificial light, needing around 8-10 hours a day – so they are great in the office. You will get the best colour in bright light. You can grow outdoors where they are sheltered from the hot afternoon sun.
I NEED A DRINK: When watering Crassula it is always better to err on the side of caution – too little is better than too much. Water well, then allow the soil to dry out before watering again. Less water is required in winter as they don’t like to be cold and wet. The leaves will shrivel if they are left too dry and may fall off – a great way to get some attention from you!
I WILL SURVIVE: If growing in pots use a good quality cactus/succulent potting mix, to ensure they have the drainage they need.
You don’t need to fertilise them very often or much, a diluted liquid feed in spring is all they need and they will forgive you if you forget.
Repot as required (ideally in spring) when they outgrow their current pot, do this when the soil is dry, and leave them for a week to callous before resuming watering. They are easily divided to share with friends and family.
