Agastache 'Blue Fortune'

The densely packed spires of smoky, lavender blue flowers are sure to delight, making an excellent choice for adding vertical interest to the garden. The colourful, upright stems last months on end and can be picked to enjoy indoors. Bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects adore these blooms.

Agastache ‘Blue Fortune’ holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, so you know it has been put through its paces and will be easy and reliable in the garden.

The foliage is a sensory delight and can be wonderful planted along paths. When you brush against it, it releases a fragrance reminiscent of citrus and liquorice.

Agastache flowers and leaves are edible and can be used in salads or teas.

Standing up to heat and tolerant of poor soils, so long as they are well drained, Agastache are ideal for providing long lasting colour as a dry garden plant. Agastache plants prefer a full sun to light shade position, they need water to establish, then you only need to worry if rainfall is low. Rabbits rarely show an interest and they aren’t troubled by disease.

We recommend dead heading your Agastache flowers regularly during the season to encourage more blooms. Or a mid season cut back (don’t forget to water and fertilise after) for a rebloom into autumn. Or let them grow, they will be taller and may require staking but their blooms still last many months.

It is a good idea to cut your plants back to the ground in winter or early spring to maintain a healthy bush and allow the new growth to shine.

Agastache is also known as Hummingbird Mint or Anise Hyssop. Most plants are endemic to North America/Mexico, this one was cross bred from a Korean form, A. rugosa.
