Achillea 'Cloth of Gold'
This tough plant has lots of appeal. The large, corymbs of golden blooms, each grow up to 15cm across, opening from early summer all the way through to autumn. The tall stems group together to form layers of colour over the soft, fern like foliage.
Achillea 'Cloth of Gold’ will look sensational in cottage gardens and dry garden beds alike. It will pair beautifully with ornamental grasses, Salvias, Heleniums, Echinacea and more.
'Cloth of Gold' flowers open even in tough, dry conditions and last well as cut or dried flowers. Remove the early flowers to encourage more to bloom. You can then leave them to stand where they will remain handsome into winter. Beneficial insects and birds love them too.
Plant Achillea in full sun, water to establish, this can take up to four weeks, as the roots need to penetrate the surrounding soil. Once they are settled in they are quite dry tolerant. Any well drained soil will do and you should ensure good air flow around the plants.
Achillea ‘Cloth of Gold’ will form clumps at a steady pace and can be divided every three years or so. Some of the basal foliage will even stick around through winter. In more mild climates it remains semi evergreen.
Achillea are commonly known as Yarrow.
